Our Animals

Come and meet over 200 species of animals here at Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens.

As well as taking part in European breeding programmes for conservation, our zoo animals also have an important role to play in educating our Animal Care and Management students at Northumberland College.

New for 2017

Common Squirrel Monkey

This year sees the arrival of another primate species added to the collection. 4 boisterous male common Squirrel monkeys have arrived from Budapest Zoo in Europe and have settled in well. Come along and see how they interact and behave. They are very fascinating to watch and indeed enjoy watching you!

Rainbow Lorikeets

Lookout for their new walk through exhibit that is due to open at the end of August 2017. Here you will be able to go in and feed our very friendly colourful and noisy Australian Rainbow Lorikeets. We have a group of 20 birds all with their own personality and flare. The walk through will open at certain times during the day (please see boards around the Zoo) when you can purchase nectar to feed the birds.

Skunks

We have welcomed a new pair of skunks from Bishop Burton College recently. These are a young pair and are going to be hopefully trained to become ambassadors for their species. They are located in the courtyard.
